The Egyptian Football Association Executive Committee was forced to resign after a poor Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, followed by the painful round of 16 exit during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil. The Sports Ministry appointed an Interim Board to run the game to avoid possible FIFA sanctions. However, the Board is struggling to fulfil its mandate, plunging the domestic league into crisis.
