Increase in number of displaced stretching limited resources in South Sudan

The humanitarian situation in South Sudan continues to get dire. The ongoing internal conflict has caused overcrowding at most IDPs camps and Protection of Civilian sites. At the end of 2016 it was estimated that over 1.9 million South Sudanese were displaced within the country. Another 1.9 million are also said to have sought safety in neighboring countries. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi recently visited the Protection of Civilian Site near Juba, ahead of the World Refugee Day, to be marked on Tuesday. He met some of the internally displaced persons. They are asking the South Sudanese government to do more to ensure there’s adequate security for its people
