– South Sudan peace talks resumed over the weekend despite a threat from opposition leader Riek Machar to back out of negotiations. Opposition leader Riek Machar says he will not be part of a unity government next month because the parties involved have failed to agree on ways to integrate the army, a key condition of a peace accord signed last year.

– Libya marks eight years since the death of former leader Muammar Gaddafi.

– And Somalia says it is ready to move ahead with poverty reduction efforts and a major regional ports and corridors initiative if international creditors forgive the country’s $5 billion debt in February.
