South African Health Official Talks New COVID-19 Variants
Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases says it has detected a new variant of the coronavirus in four travelers arriving from Brazil. The announcement comes as countries scramble to contain two other contagious strains that have emerged in Britain and South Africa. For more insight, Africa 54 health correspondent Linord Moudou spoke with Salim Abdool Karim, director of the Center for the AIDS Program of Research in South Africa and chair of South Africa’s COVID-19 advisory committee.
